Whole Numbers

  1. Number Notation And Place Values
    • count to 1,000
      • includes counting in tens and hundreds
    • read and write numbers up to 1,000 in numerals and in words
      • includes the use of zero as a place holder
    • recognise the place values of numbers (hundreds, tens, ones)
      • includes completing number sequences
    • compare and order numbers up to 1,000
      • includes finding the difference
  2. Addition And Subtraction
    • add and subtract two numbers up to 3 digits
      • includes formal algorithm
      • includes use of abacus
    • carry out addition and subtraction mentally involving:  3-digit numbers and ones  3-digit numbers and tens  3-digit numbers and hundreds
  3. Multiplication And Division Within The 2, 3, 4, 5 And 10 Times Tables
    • count in steps of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10
      • includes completing number sequences leading to multiplication tables
    • build up the multiplication tables of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 and commit to memory
      • includes activities to help pupils see that multiplication is commutative
    • multiply numbers within the multiplication tables
    • write mathematical statements for given situations involving division
      • includes use of division symbol
    • divide numbers within the multiplication tables
      • excludes division with remainder
    • carry out multiplication and division within multiplication tables mentally
  4. Word Problems
    • solve 1-step word problems involving the four operations

      • includes concept of conservation of volume of liquid
      • excludes compound units
      • excludes volume of solids
  2. Addition And Subtraction Of Length, Mass And Volume
    • compare:  lengths  masses  volumes
      • includes finding the difference
    • add and subtract:  lengths  masses  volumes
      • excludes conversion of units
  3. Time
    • tell and write time from the clock face
      • includes reading time, e.g. read ‘9.15’ as ‘nine fifteen’; ‘9.50’ as ‘nine fifty’

      • includes drawing hands on the clock face to show time
      • includes use of abbreviations: h and min
      • includes the concept of duration of time when reading time
