Changes in Singapore's 2007 Primary Math Syllabus

A summary of the changes to Singapore's 2007 Primary Math Syllabus (primary 1 to 4) is given below.
(The remarks "new:", "moved:" and "removed:" indicates whether the content is new in 2007 syllabus, moved from another level in 2001 syllabus or removed from 2001 syllabus.)
Primary 1
- Whole Numbers
- moved: addition and subtraction using formal algorithm (previously in primary 2)
Primary 2
- Whole Numbers
- new: solving up to 2-step word problems involving addition and subtraction (previously 1-step problems)
- removed:
add and subtract using abacus
- Fractions
- new: addition and subtraction of like fractions within one whole
- Measurement
- removed:
add and subtract money in compound units
- removed:
solve word problems involving money in compound units
- Geometry
- new: forming different 2-D figures with cut-outs of
* rectangle
* square
* triangle
* semicircle
* quarter circle
- new: forming different 3-D figures with concrete models of
* cube
* cuboid
* cone
* cylinder
- new: copying figures on dot grid or square grid
Primary 3
- Whole Numbers
- removed:
add and subtract using abacus
- Fractions
- new: addition and subtraction of two related fractions within one whole
- Measurement
- removed:
add and subtract length, mass and volume in compound units
- Geometry
- new: drawing perpendicular and parallel lines on square grids
- moved: identifying and naming perpendicular and parallel lines (previoulsy in primary 4)
- Data Analysis
- moved: completing a bar graph from given data (previoulsy in primary 4)
Primary 4
- Whole Numbers
- new: estimation of answers in calculations involving division
- Decimals
- new: estimation of answers in calculations involving division
- Measurement
- moved: measurement of time in seconds (previously in primary 3)
- moved: 24 hour clock (previously in primary 6)
- Geometry
- new: Symmetry
- designing and making patterns
- new: Tessellation
- designing and making patterns
- moved: Angles (previously in primary 5)
- 8 point compass
- moved: Tessellation (previously in primary 5)
- recognising shapes that can tessellate
- identifying the basic shape in a tessellation
- making different tessellations with a given shape
- drawing a tessellation on dot paper
- removed:
visualise and identify the new solid formed by increasing/decreasing the number of cubes of a given solid drawn on an isometric grid
- Data Analysis
- moved: reading and interpreting line graphs (previoulsy in primary 5)
- moved: solving problems using information presented in line graphs (previoulsy in primary 5)
